How often do we drive with a computer bag / backpack/ purse either on the seat beside us, or loose on the back seat or floor? And what about groceries or gym bags? In the event of a car crash, those items could instantly become projectiles, potentially causing you and your passengers more serious personal injury than the accident itself! However, this could be avoided with Cargo Safety Hooks. These hooks would be comprised of a small D-ring bolted to the floor of the front and rear passenger seats, and on the floor of a rear hatchback. The Cargo Safety Hook would come with several large easy release carabiner hooks, where one could secure the handles of the bagged items within their car to ensure they are safely tied down. As well, a lightweight, super strong mesh bag would be included. The bag would either come in several sizes, or have the ability to be zipped larger or smaller, depending on the user's needs. Before travelling, one would place smaller loose objects (camera, phone, toys, books etc) into the bag, and quickly clip it to a hook using one of the carabiners. A larger version of the bag could be offered to hold bigger items usually kept loose in a hatchback trunk. With a simple unobtrusive design and a strong public awareness campaign, I believe in time Cargo Safety Hooks could become standard equipment in every car and their use become as automatic as seat belts. It's a simple, inexpensive concept, but the lives saved would be priceless.
