According to the general theory of relativity, everything having mass, energy or momentum bends space-time. This causes the gravitational effect. Scientists think that gravitons (hypothetical force carrying particles of gravity) could be a possible reason for the propagation of gravitational field but I believe virtual particles can fill this incomplete big picture. According to Einstein’s famous equation E=mc^2, energy and mass are aspects of the same thing. Energy is equal to mass times square of the speed of light. if we picture an object having mass in a vacuum we can see a spike like a feature in a vacuum because of more virtual particles coming into existence and annihilating each other. Also, the more mass and energy more will be warping of space-time and more will be gravity. Now coming into existence of more virtual particles and warping of more space-time can have a connection? We can see they are somehow related. Likelihood of more virtual particles means more force will be carried. According to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, ΔEΔt=h/4π, anything having more energy will exist for less time. therefore high energy virtual particles can only travel for shorter distances because of the uncertainty principle and low energy virtual particles can travel a longer distance (distance= speed of light*time). Now as the gravitational force becomes weak with the distance we can say that lower energy virtual particles might be the reason for the same. lower energy virtual particles exist for a longer time and travel larger distance that is why gravity becomes weak with greater distances and higher energy virtual particles can only exist for shorter distances and hence gravity is strong near the massive body.
